Site Leader Job Description

The Site Leader must be a committed follower and disciple of Jesus Christ, a learner, and at the same time dedicated to teaching and training young adults to be disciples. The Site Leader must be willing to work closely with others in leadership settings that are dynamic and constantly changing. Good communication skills, enjoyment of travel and adventure and a tolerance for the unpredictability of living in a travelling community are all assets. A class four driver’s license is necessary and must be acquired before arrival for staff training. It is important for the Site Leader to have a post-secondary education (bible school is an asset, but not required) and significant youth leadership experience. Staff members must read and affirm the Mennonite Brethren Confession of Faith.

Responsibilities include:

Mentoring: Meet with students every week in either formalized mentoring or informal one-on-one conversations. This work with individual students is to be conducted as opportunity and need dictate and can be initiated by students or staff. These may involve one-hour sessions over coffee or 10 minutes in a quiet hallway.

Peer Mentoring Groups (PMG): Meet weekly with gender specific groups of three or four students to help them process and respond to all that is going on in student life, study and service.

Small Groups: Oversee/direct/lead a weekly small group consisting of 8-10 students of mixed gender.

Committees: Site Leaders will oversee at least one committee each along with a small group of students. Committees include: Van/bus maintenance, Worship, Media and Entertainment.

Large Groups: Provide leadership to 30-35 students according to your gifts and strengths — this may include informing students of upcoming events, initiating community meetings, leading worship, teaching, facilitating group discussions, introducing speakers or being a voice of authority and discipline when required.

Leadership Team: Work closely with other Outtatown leaders with a commitment to unity, integrity and honesty. Duties in this area include meeting with staff on a regular basis to discuss program needs and to make changes to schedule as necessary. This will also involve times of sharing and prayer.

Administrative Duties: Each Site Leader is responsible for: keeping track of Site finances in an accurate, timely and organized fashion; being a liaison between their Site and a variety of accomodations, instructors or service project partners; evaluating student assignments and reflections. Strong organizational and administrative skills are an asset.

Personal Care: It is important that each Site Leader looks after their own spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental health, and communicates those needs with co-workers. Also it is important to encourage and look out for co-workers to see that they care for themselves in similar ways.

Training: Site Leaders must be willing to be trained and grow in their role as leaders. Teachability is an important asset.
